Meet Mayor Austin Hammond: A New Generation of Leadership for Menasha

Since his election in April 2024, Mayor Austin Hammond has brought a dynamic and forward-thinking approach to the City of Menasha. As the youngest mayor ever elected in Menasha’s history, and currently the youngest mayor in the State of Wisconsin, he has quickly demonstrated his commitment to progress and community well-being.

Experience in Public Service

Before taking office as Mayor, Austin served his community on the City of Menasha Common Council, representing District 4 from 2022 to 2024. His legislative experience also extends to his service on the Brothertown Indian Nation Tribal Council from 2019 to 2024, showcasing his diverse background in public service.

Educational Foundation

Mayor Hammond’s academic achievements reflect his dedication to understanding and serving the public. He holds:

• Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
• Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh
• Certificate in Irish Business & Culture from Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland
• Associate of Science in Digital Media Technology from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College

Professional Experience

Prior to his mayoral term, Austin gained valuable experience as a Development Director for a local nonprofit and as an Outreach Coordinator for the Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity. He also served as an appointed representative on the Governor’s Task Force on Student Debt.

Current Leadership Roles

Mayor Hammond is deeply committed to leveraging government as a tool for positive change, working tirelessly with the city’s dedicated staff and the wonderful people of Menasha to achieve great things. He has expanded his service by also serving as:

• Appointed member for Winnebago County on the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (ECWRPC)
• First ever chairman for the MPO Policy Board for ECWRPC

Personal Life

Austin and his wife, Amber, live on beautiful Doty Island with their two beloved cats. Both Austin and Amber are first-generation college graduates, embodying the power of dedication and hard work. Their passion for community involvement shines through in every aspect of their lives, as they consistently seek opportunities to contribute and make a difference in Menasha.

Austin was born in Waupaca and raised in Fremont, and has found his home in the City of Menasha, and he is incredibly proud to serve its residents.
